article ‘Left Behind: Catholic Social Teaching and Justice for People with Intellectual Disabilities’ by James Gould

This 2024 article references aspects of Wolfensberger’s work, among other conceptual frameworks, as a way of promoting a fuller welcome and integration of disciples with physical and intellectual impairments into the life of the Church. The articles incorporates three citations to Wolfensberger’s work, which is gratifying.

Surprisingly, the author draws primarily on Wolfensberger’s formulation of Normalization as well as PASS. Social Role Valorization and valued roles are briefly mentioned; nonetheless, the author expresses a preference for Normalization. Furthermore, the author focuses almost exclusively on integration and individualization, and describes a number of inhibitors as well as facilitators of Normalization.
