Discard role: 3 May 2010 cover of the New Yorker

The May 3 2010 cover of the New Yorker illustrates the discard role: it’s an image of a man in a rocking chair put out at the curb with other trash. His wife (presumably) looks on from the door of a their house.

  1. Hello again,
Great example Marc! I wonder what message the illustrator was trying to send? Perhaps he is becoming aware of stories such as the one I found in the National Post the other day entitled “Granny Dumping A Burden for ERs” – an example of both the discard role and the burden role, along with perhaps the sick and/or dying role. Phew!
    Here is the story: http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=3025987
